Frequently Asked Questions
Q: In your opinion, what are the most important issues currently facing the City of Medford?
I believe that the following issues are critical elements to improving and revitalizing our city. Advocating for additional elderly and affordable housing will improve the quality of life for those who have given so much to this community. In addition, working toward containing water and sewer rates will increase the amount of disposable income for our city residents. Finally, with the addition of TeleCom City, our residents will benefit by new high tech employment opportunities, as well as expanding our tax base providing our beleaguered taxpayers with financial relief.
Q: What qualifications or special skills do you have that will enable you to most effectively perform the duties of an elected official?
To be an effective elected official, one must consider many things. Firstly, one must be open-minded to the various issues, needs and concerns confronting our residents and neighborhoods. My experience as a member of the Medford School Committee provides me with the unique insight and past experiences on the importance of consensus building. Secondly, in terms of my qualifications, I bring seven years of providing constituent services as a legislative aide. My six years on the Medford School Committee, I believe, has enhanced my leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with community groups toward obtaining positive results.
Q: What changes would you like to see in the city in the next two years? How do you propose to implement these changes?
As we embark in a new era, our city must improve upon its physical appearance. I would institute a systematic and sensible approach to revitalizing our city neighborhoods. Sidewalks in disrepair must be replaced, implement a city-wide program for street sweeping, and plant new flowers and shrubs in our neighborhoods. This can be accomplished through proper leadership and the collaborative efforts of public and private partnerships. Also, for our city to thrive and be competitive we must provide additional parking downtown and improve the traffic congestion which currently exists city-wide by improving our infrastructure.
Q: What projects do you feel supplemental state funds should be used for?
Any extra state funds we receive by means of supplemental funding should be reallocated back to the taxpayer.
